Do you want us to wash the car sir?

Land Rover must be looking at the posts from new car owners who don't want their pride and joy touched by dealership "valet" teams as when I dropped mine off for its annual service this morning I was asked if I would like the car returned washed and vacuumed - OK so it's 12 months since I took a car in for servicing but I was surprised to be asked this. At least reception staff at my local dealership are aware that some pressure washer jockeys are not really professional valeters and that some owners spend fortunes on "detailing" at 3rd party car polishers and with expensive finishing products. I'm happy to have my cars washed by the dealership, they usually make a better job of it than I do........... it is a Land Rover after all and mine has just has its first wash since the 1st week of January - one of the benefits of Corris Grey! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Scandalous! Can't believe you haven't washed your car in so long Shocked
Re your comments re dealer cleaning it ..I never have mine cleaned by them.. the only scratches on the entire car in 54,000 miles of motoring were caused by their car cleaners with a number of whirly scratches across the bonnet caused by them using a gritty sponge and scouring my car with it!

I hate looking at it......

Car and owner were separated by 3000 miles for nearly 4 months, that's why it wasn't washed. I relented and took it to a "professional" car wash bay at the local specialist valeters to get the caked on crow's droppings professionally cleaned off last week though........ hated parting with all that money just for a fancy wash though. I've been impressed with the Autoglym Lifeshine treatment that was applied before delivery, although it hasn't been as hard wearing as the Gardex system I had on my white Evoque. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I had Autoglym on my last car (done by a specialist), and was also impressed. After five years it was still doing its job. On my new RRS, I made the mistake of not only having Pureguard but letting the dealer arrange it. Unlike Autoglym, I got no paperwork or written guarantee. It has proved useless, and became ineffective almost immediately. Indeed, I have challenged them to prove that it was ever done. All I got was a £200 bag of cleaning products to go with the Autoglym ones I'd already got!

The Gardex was purchased through LPR but the car was sent to the Gardex works to be treated as it was the first Evoque they had tried (it was the first Evoque privately owned in the UK as far as I know too...... The Autoglym treatment was applied by Grange Garage, today the car is at home in Scotland (has been for 2 years) as I travel south to buy my new cars from James and his team wherever they are working. In nearly 6 years of ownership, I've washed mine a handful of times and those were just washing mud off at a garage jet wash after off roading. It gets a wash at service time otherwise. Life's too short to waste time washing cars.

I do clean and rain-x the windscreen each week, however. Lights and plates get cleaned too. That's it.

Mine is scratched but it's from "vegetation" (some of it is seemingly made from tough stuff). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

My car never normally goes to the dealership, but the last one went for a brake recall and they washed it with some dreadful caustic traffic film remover (and no doubt a pointless jet wash - why do people think they are so good?). They washed all the wax off the car and I had to re-wax it. I shall never let them do it again!

They also spray some oily stuff on the wheels that takes about three washings with car shampoo to get off. Dreadful stuff.

I never let the dealership wash my car. in the past it was never done properly because it was only ever blasted with the pressure washer. Always had water stains.

Well I am a slacker as well, I wash mine about every two months to check the scratches and stone chips. Also think life is to short for car washing. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Water stains are from calcium deposits in the tap water. Rain water doesn't leave those white stain spots.

I also am one for not letting the dealer wash mine. The first complimentary service was done on mine (which was clean before the service) and they did a free"wash" to mine too. Totally rubbish... Stains from the water on every panel, never again. I just thought, they wouldn't wash it because it was already clean, so I didn't make point of saying "please don't wash it"...

Lesson learn't Sheep

Washing my car is cheap therapy... I enjoy it. Embarassed 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE
