That's what they told me when I ordered it, so I believed them. They are as much in the dark as I am.

It is also one reason why there are sports grounds to this day at Solihull - they double up as a helicopter landing area when the traffic on the motorways gets snarled up and deliveries stop - they airlift in the parts to keep the factory going. Even on my ship we have contracts with all the car makers in the UK and Europe - we have to land containers in a fixed time window after a 6 week trip from the other side of the world............... to within 30 minutes. Missing the tide into Southampton or Felixstowe would cost the shipping line millions in compensation hence why we cruise along at 15 knots but have reserve speed to come up to 28knots if the weather turns nasty or we get delayed at another port - it is cheaper to burn the extra fuel (even doubling consumption to 300-400 TONNES a day) rather than compensate the car makers..... In April the Renault / Dacia factory in Tangiers was shut down because the big ships could not berth at Port Tangiers Med due to hurricane force winds for 3 days, that didn't cost the shipping lines but it will have made a few Lloyds Names a little less wealthy... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The just-in-time logistics and delivery of parts to the line is handled by DHL, who have built a hhhuuge warehouse a few miles from the factory. Suppliers don't have to use them and can sort delivery to the line themselves. However, if the line has to stop because parts are not there the supplier gets charged by the minute. And when a car comes off the line every minute you can imagine what the cost-per-minute charge is! |

So have you gone for extra work at SVO itself as Phil did, or is this a line built order? |

I did have extra work done at SVO. It was passed to SVO on 4th May and I was told that the 22nd was still on. Then I got informed a week later that it was receiving its final "make up" and check ready for handover.

I must admit, I hadn't thought of that. I too am am having 22" wheels. I just thought that as it was on the spec sheet they would have accounted for it before production. There are different rear wheel arches if you have the factory fitted OEM 22" wheels - to meet legal requirements, so maybe LR has run out of the special little winglets................ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
