Oman 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange
OEM Head Unit Function

Morning All,

As you can see in my other thread here I'm working on an ambitious build with an Android head unit.

I've used some of InCarTec's cables to get it working. Now I was under the impression that the head unit had to be connected so that the functions like trip, fuel consumption etc worked on the dash display. However I have the unit completely disconnected and the only thing that seems to be missing is the clock, which I can live without.

So can anyone tell me why I need to keep the OEM head unit connected?? I have no problem retaining it, but, if it only provides the clock then I see little point.

Please note I currently don't have the OEM touch screen installed so anything related to this is not relevant.

Thanks

Thanks Andy, Rop for the confirmations. What about for Steering Wheel Controls, I'm guessing it maybe required for that?

Cheers

If you have the Incartec lead with steering wheel control interface then new head unit should function with steering wheel control with original head unit in place.

The trip computer uses button on end of stalk which has no operation with OEM unit

The only functions to check are if you can access settings menu on dash when radio not fitted (new head unit cannot be switced on for this)

If you ar able to access the settings for things like follow home lights delay etc when no OEM head unit plugged in then cant see any need for it as I believe just required to retain top nav screen

The incartec lead already bypasses all audio anyway TDV8 now with extra grin factor thanks to Alive Tunning: Gone but not forgotten

I think cruise control is ok.

But as the poster above has reminded me, the radio buttons will not be able to adjust the settings via the dash LCD display.

e.g
headlight delay
lazy entry
drive away door locking
reverse dip mirrors
interior light delay
