Service costs & reviews?

Hi Folks

Due to the selling dealer annoyingly stamping the book 6+ months early (and only 500 miles covered since last service), I'll need to get a 60 months service done. I'm still in the 2 year warranty period and with full LR history already then I'm going to keep this going, at least till the end of warranty.

Has anyone had experience of either M&D (now Parks) in Inverness, or Pentland in Elgin? I need to find a new dealer due to my mistrust of Peter Vardy Aberdeen due to finding out their terrible/unsafe standards (all proveable).

A few weeks ago I booked into M&D and was quoted about £750, which I thought high but I needed booked somewhere as we had to arrange ferry and hotel around this, but now I've contacted Pentland who initially said £612 but dropped to £520 - I mentioned warranty work. I'm trying to contact M&D again to see if they'll match, but being abroad is proving difficult as they want to call back.

Has anyone successfully managed to book in via the official LR site? It goes through the motions and even sends an email with reference number - but the dealer never had any knowledge of it. Also the prices don't tie-in with the dealer as Pentland shows £485.95 online but the bloke on the phone at the dealer said he had no idea why as the prices were as above. M&D online shows 248.97 for the same service, I'm still to talk to them.

So any recommendations between M&D or Pentland?

Thanks

You don't need to have the service done by LR if the car is over 3 years old

And even if it was under 3 years old, EU Block exemption means you can have the car serviced anywhere, providing "equivalent quality" parts are used Thumbs Up

I was thinking of LR as I've a few niggly warranty items I want them to sort at the same time:
Front park sensor fault B1B38-96 (2F)
TV not working - comes on and works for 10 seconds, then goes off and cycles like this. U3000-49 (2E) Control Module B1D58-13 (2E) output circuit.
Terrain controls flickering - ok 90%, but when flickers then it doesn't work.

And due to where I live I want a one-stop shop, so to speak. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

Hi Dennis,

I would immediately have recommended Parks M&D (they haven't decided whether they are going to be one or the other for the LR Franchise, although they are most definitely PARKS for all the others they bought, Ford, Mazda, Honda etc. when they purchased the group!). However, since the take over there have been several changes of staff and my feeling is that the old quality of the dealership is deteriorating. I was talking to an employee there about the change over and he was going to give them another 6 months, but was considering moving on as he was starting to feel pressured into making money at the expense of providing a service, something that the old M&D were very good at.

Having said this, Pentland (ex-Frank Ogg) have been through this cycle a few years ago and I know several folk that are taking their cars there now rather than Parks M&D. Also, if you are getting the Aberdeen ferry, it is a wee bit closer for you. I certainly wouldn't rule them out of doing a reasonable job for you.

Hope this helps a wee bit.

Yes that helps a lot Jock55, thank you.

We'll be using the Scrabster ferry so Elgin is less convenient, but always worth a daytrip across if it means better service. I've still to speak to M&D so will see what they say regards price (I'm interested in if they'd drop from their overinflated £750).

As an addition, do you know anyone in or near Inverness who has a good reputation for wheel refurbishment? They must've been refurbished by PV Aberdeen just prior to sale as they were immaculate, but the lacquer started falling off in my sponge when washing and now starting to corrode - they definately never got bumped so was a poor refurb job. I'd prefer to keep the diamond cut look but if it's going to be constant hassle then I'll powder coat or paint.

Thanks

Hi Dennis,

I can definitely help you out with the wheels. I would thoroughly recommend Rimtech. They are 500 yards down the road from M&D! www.rimtech.co.uk, Unit 5, 27 Harbour Road, Inverness IV1 1SY Tel: 01463 233440, Mob:07515 021631. Ask for Jason. They'll definitely get you sorted at a fair price and top quality work. M&D GROUP sub out all their wheel work to Rimtech.

Cheers just now,

I'd book online and hold them to the price quoted.

I originally thought I'd booked via the online booking system, I received an email with reference number but on calling M&D to discuss the warranty work she couldn't find me in the system. I just booked on the phone and only once off it dawned on me the price she said. I've since tried again to book online thinking I'd then call up and cancel the phone booking, but when I printed the booking form it came out blank - hence the dealer not having the booking. So I now have 2 online references, but no online bookings.

Has anyone actually managed to book via the online LR site, and actually had the booking?

I really do wonder just what is wrong with LR dealers, why can they not just get things right?

Went to Parks Inverness for my service stamp, can only assume they actually did it correctly, I got 10% off just by saying I was price comparing with the Elgin dealer. They had plenty notice of a couple of small issue's I was hoping was warranty stuff, and the service manager even phoned me the night before to discuss them, and was happy I was able to leave the RRS with them for 3 days.

The front park sensor was apparently a wiring fault/repair, so repaired. The TV module got a software update, so all good.

But my main concern was a rattle while going over bumps and sharp side to side movements, which they diagnosed to the front ARB bushes...but they would be fine for another 3 months when I can bring it back for repair!!! Well just to get to the dealer costs a heap of cash for boats and hotels, never mind the wasted time! I said to them I wanted everything done as it would be ages before I planned passing again, and I really struggle to think they don't carry something that needs replaced as frequently as ARB bushes in stock - by the sound of things from reading online they are as common a replacement as brake pads. They have it marked on their job sheet to call me in 3 months...

Is it really so hard for a dealer to just give the service asked of them, especially since I would have paid over £400 for them to just do it (also marked on the job sheet). Now I think I'll buy the genuine bushes and special tools and ask my local garage to replace them, at least I can trust them to do the job asked of them.
The best part I've come away with is how the desk girl typed the cost into her card machine but forgot to add the VAT, is it bad of me not to tell them (only noticed when I got home)?

Well done Dennis, good to hear someone is winning from the Dealers. My car is booked in to Pentland in Elgin for its second service. Will let you know how I get on there.
