Frustrating fuel filler flap

I went to fill the tank up the other night and the fuel filler flap wouldn't open. I couldn't use my car due to the mileage required for the following day but when I got in the car this morning; as it unlocked, the flap popped open and now seems to be alright.

Should I spray it with WD40 to stop it sticking again or is the actuator on its last legs?

Happens to me all the time. Lock the car then unlock again, and it should open. 2006 Java Black HST Supercharged

Mine done this and caught me out with no fuel, I ended up pulling out and snapping the plastic actuator. That cost me £45 and I fitted it myself, I then bought and replaced a filler cap latch kit

Very simple to diy fit and it's not jammed since.

If you get stuck at a petrol station again, don't forget you can manually open it from the boot Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

Really, would love to know how?
As the actuator pokes through to the cap and the head of the plastic finger is non returnable. Once it's pushed through it spreads open and couldn't be pulled back with out snapping the end off.

Update on the filler flap: the following morning, I unlocked the car and the filler just popped open too! I squirted the mechanism with loads of WD and the put some grease on the actuator bar and it's been alright ever since.

Hi,
I am with Warkman on this,
the 2008 D3 we had would not always lock the flap and istr behind the r/h side panel gives access to the motor and cable and it just needed some lubrication.

on the RRS the motor/actuator must be in a similar place, so may be a good search behind the trim panel in the boot

Thumbs Up

I didn't realise that at the time. The mechanism is behind a small removal panel but I'm still a little unsure how you open the flap.
