Hmmm. Just a few words to help any others as stupid as me. Wanted to pump up the tyres on my bike and being lazy, decided to use the electric pump I carry in the RRS. Used the power socket in the boot and it worked just fine once I had turned on the ignition - just to the first position you understand so that there was power in the rear socket.

Ok to connect the positive direct but negative should be clamped to an earth and not the negative battery post....that's my understanding.

I'm sure I read that somewhere but by o-level physics says " what's the difference?" So I just connected to the terminals

People just worry about things sparking near battery vapors and causing an explosion

Yep no different to any other car - there is nothing mystical about the RRS if you leave the ignition on in any position and charging the battery is exactly the same as any other car. It is easier to put the negative lead of the charger on the body post rather than try to get at the -ive on the battery but all else is the same.

Riverblanche - on a slight aside - I have two tow sockets fitted (and presumably wired) but have never towed. I believe one is for lighting and the other is for power to say a caravan. Which I would use to trickle charge? And is there a note somewhere about wiring up a plug for this? Robin

If you go in the forum shop you can purchase a plug for use with tow electrics and a trickle charge 👍 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black
