Head unit issues

Hi all,

I've had a real headache with the head unit in my car and hoping someone can help me or has had the issue before.

My head unit worked fine except for the cd changer which gave an error.

I purchased a 2nd hand unit listed as spare or repair which had a working cd changer but the head unit wouldn't produce sound. Perfect for me as I only needed the cd changer.

So I test the spare or repair unit and the cd changer works, no sound obviously, but it worked and accepted a disc and showed as playing on the screen.

Put the good Cd changer on my headunit and still shows as cd error! How can that be!

The spare or repair unit I purchased has no sound, the volume knob doesn't show the volume when twisted and the nav screen continuously shows the Land Rover logo. However the cables in the back show the red lights

Does anyone have any idea of how I can fix either of these headunits to create one good one!

I have put the working CD changer into my unit. I still have my circuit board etc. from my old unit. It almost seems like my circuit board doesn't like the cd changer and the other circuit board doesn't like producing sound.

When I first tested the spare or repair headunit it produced sound for 30 seconds or so and then stopped. I've read some stuff about the Bluetooth muting the headunit.

I'm still just not sure why my headunit won't recognise the working cd changer, although I did notice yesterday that the headunit said 'cd error' and had 'CD 2' in the corner, the unit I put in would have been on CD1 so maybe the headunit thinks there is an error as the cd changer isn't in the position it expects, but I would have thought it could have run a cycle and fixed this itself.

Can you not change the volume on the replacement unit using the steering wheel controls ?

No it seems to have gone into phone mode. I get phone mode on the screen and the sound now comes in and out

Might be worth buying a known working one, as the replacement you bought sounds to have more problems than just no sound.

May just stick with mine and do away with the CD player. The annoying thing is that the cd changer works in the one I purchased but just not in my headunit and I cannot for the life of me understand how my headunit shows the same issue with 2 different cd changers. Unless the circuit board is somehow broken but only in relation to the cd changer.

I've not seen CD1 on the display before.

THe display does show along the bottom which slots have CD's in them.

So you would get a 1 with a circle around it, if a cd was present in slot 1

Mine has the circles but also cd1 or cd2 in the top left corner.

The broken unit was playing music fine earlier but stopped sound as soon as the phone removed wording appeared on the screen.

Just been using mine.

The CD2 in the top corner means its playing disk 2

Might be worth looking at the phone cradle in the centre cubby box. there may be a short or a pinched wire. I've removed the cradle from mine (being as I dont have a nokia 3310 Rolling with laughter )

Think the fact that the sat nav screen stays on land rover logo points to an issue with the fibre optics too and if getting problems with phone I would try unplugging bluetooth unit in rear quarter panel to eliminate that from the system. as soon as you unplug it the sat nav scrren would have stayed on the LR logo unless you use a loop like below but at least you will know if thats causing your problem as if issue with fibre optic loop you will have no sound
