Snow chains - cheap or expensive?

I'm off to the Alps over Easter.
I have winter tyres and I love them. Completely sold on the idea for the UK let alone the Alps.

But ... I need snow chains to comply with French law when I drive to the Alps over Easter.
Given that it's unlikely to be snowy enough to require chains as well as my winter tyres, what would people's advice be?
. Get cheap chains? Any advice/experience with those?
. Or think long term and get 'posh' chains? Again, any advice/experiences with those?

I was in the same situation and pondered over the same question as I had very good winter tyres. Because I was going in the middle of the winter, I decided to get Spikes Spiders just in case I need them or if the police insist on putting them on. I bought the Land Rover branded ones unused but unboxed on eBay. Much cheaper than what Land Rover sell them for ( Shocked ). When I changed the car I sold the chains.

The problem with ordinary ones is that if you do need to put them on for whatever reason, they may get caught in brake or suspension components and cause damage. So whichever ones you go for, I would advise to make sure they are suitable for cars with zero/limited clearance between wheels/tyres and brakes/suspension.

Another benefit of Spikes Spiders is that once you have fitted the hub plates, adjusted for size and tried them at home once, it becomes very quick and easy to fit the chains to their hubs if you need to use them in bad weather. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

You could also consider snow socks which are acceptable in France in place of chains.
