Security of the RRS ?

Hi,

I am purchasing my 1st RRS next week.

I understand their is a weakness within the keyless entry system.

As a newbie, could anyone advise extra security from prevention of theft?

I am looking at a STOPLOCK (steering wheel) locking system.

Advice would be appreciated

Regards
Lee

Hi Lee,
A couple of posts on here about this. The problem occurs because the contactless key is always emitting a signal and it's believed that some unworthy Censored are 'hacking ' this signal without actually having the keys on them. I have heard on here that some keep their keys in tins or in the oven when home.
A recommendation from another forum member, Muddywheels, who has a slamming on here because he has now gone to the dark side and is driving an electric Phev, aka milk float, Laughing was to purchase signal blocking pouches. I got these on Amazon and they work great.
When the key is in the pouch, my car now does not open when I put my hand behind the door handle, as if the car is not 'seeing' it. When I remove from the pouch the car opens when I put my hand behind the door handle. Also the car does not start when the key is in the pouch and I'm sat inside but does as soon as I remove the key.
I hope this helps. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

It's not Martin, it's Paul.....
but, no worries, these are the ones I purchased.

There might be others (cheaper) out there but these work.

Hope you get some and are happy. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I have had a Diskloc but be careful if you leave the car any length of time as they can mark the leather on the steering wheel, also check the sizes carefully as I couldn't get the one recommended for RRS to fit on the steering wheel of my 2015MY L494. Halfords happily took it back but didn't have the next size up so I bought the StopLoc clamp/ bar thing and that fits well on both my RRS and my Defender. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Those stoplocks are great, provide a nice bit of extra leverage to help break the steering lock.

Even without the contactless key, i believe thieves can break into the RRS, remove the side of the dash, plug a device in and clone the key information. Is this not the case? I am waiting to pick up my 2013 RRS, my first ever. Due to my concerns about the high theft rates of RRS, i am considering getting a Viper or Clifford secondary alarm/immobiliser and even a Tracker chip.

Key cloning is much back in the news I see.
How much safer is it to lock an RRS by means of the door handle buttons instead of using the fob?
Or would that make no difference? RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary
