I came across a post on here that had photos of someone who had removed there tailgate trim to expose the rusty metal strip underneath. Like an idiot I forgot to bookmark it and now I'm trying to locate it again with no luck, all I remember was it was done on a black l320 shape rrs. And it showed the severe rust forming on that metal strip that secures the rear window.

It was to show the wife why a big strip of steel has just turned up by the postie. Now just waiting on my switch before fitting

Mines just turned 8 years old so I have no chance of claiming. But I am going to either paint or just put several coats of sealant on it as added protection before I fit it to the car.

My advise is just protect it with something, since studded screws are easy to break, I know trust me (two out of four which I tried to loose broken so I gave up). I used Hammerite after removing rust as much as possible, with two descent coats. It seems to work for now.
