United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Santorini Black
Which should we buy

Evening
We have owned a RRS 2006 HSE for the last 7 years and we are now ready for a change.
The question what should we choose? The two options on the table are the RRS V8 4.4 diesel (2015) or the HSE dynamic 3.0 SDV6.
We are looking for the cons on the V8 4.4, does anybody know of any? Fuel economy isn't particularly important as it will only be used Friday to Sunday. We are more concerned over potential problems that the V8 could bring.
Any ideas?
Thanks Very Happy

If you are not that worried about fuel why not go for the petrol ? Might even get a better deal ?

We don't think the resale value will be as good on the petrol.
Do V8's suffer more mechanical issues ?

Thanks
Is that just the V8?
And if so why?

That was an issue with the earlier 3.6 TDV8's. Not the newer 2015 models that i am aware of. There isn't that much of a difference in performance between the SDV6 and the 4.4 SDV8, and i can imagine the service costs are somewhat far more expensive on the V8. There will be more SDV6's vehicles available to choose from, so i would go down that route if it was me. But with the use that you are going to be using it for, i wouldn't discount the the 5.0L Supercharge. If you are only using it at the weekend, the 5.0L will bring a big smile to your face, Very Happy and you won't be able to wait for the weekends to arrive. Thumbs Up

When I bought my14 3.0 AB 7 months ago the dealer also had a 4.4 which I was looking at & he put me off it by saying the 3.0 is a better seller..also the road tax on the 3.0 is nearly half the price. The 3.0 handles better in the corners with it being lighter.

We did consider the 5.0 petrol but again we were concerned on the resale value.
You mention the servicing will be more on a V8 is that really the case?

Don't forget that there is now the rare 3.0lt V6 S/C petrol from Jaguar available in the RRS, with all the fuss about diesel emissions and the VED hike for them that is looming a 3.0 petrol might make more sense especially if the car is only a weekend car which suggests that you might not be doing more than 12,000 miles pa at which the running costs of diesels make more sense than those of a petrol. Problem with the 3.0 petrol is finding a dealer who has one on as a demo, there are only 2 people on the forum who have so far admitted to going for the 3.0lt S/C. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The petrol will be cheaper to buy in the first place as people worry about fuel use. If you're going to keep it for another 7 years why worry about resale? It won't be worth a huge amount either way. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Definitely interested in hearing more about the 3.0l SC.

Bought my first Landrover last August - a diesel D4. While the SO's last 4 cars have all been diesels, I've only ever had an interest in one that we ran as a sensible-ish back up to an RS2. Loving the D4 experience at the moment but I'm always researching the next car and I'm a petrolhead at heart Laughing The RRS is on my radar and I'm interested in the experiences of those with the V8 or V6 SC versions.

Steered away from looking at older SC RRS cars when I was car hunting last year. But as it's turned out, the D4 has done such a low mileage that an SC wouldn't really have been an issue.

Westey - I think you want a SC petrol one really - particularly if it's a weekend car.

Cobstar, IIRC the 5.0lt was first available in 2010 when the facelift of RRS1 happened and if you look on the Approved Used website dealers have a good selection of used ones if you don't want to fork out for a new V8 S/C or V6 S/C then used ones are reasonable prices. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi Tim in Scotland - I did look at adverts for a few RRS1S but for current circumstances a good deal on a brand new D4 on PCP with 3 years' warranty and a 5 year service pack ticked more boxes.

I certainly wouldn't rule out a SC 5.0l RRS1 in the future but maybe I'll be able to afford an RRS2 Wink
