Cat 5 Tracker

After buying my RRS on Saturday I have phoned the insurance company to get it covered and been told it needs to have a CAT5 Tracker fitted before it can be covered. Spoke to the dealer and they said to their knowledge it doesn't have one on it.

And recommendation as to what's the best one and sensible subscription cost.

I had the same issue with my long time insurance broker, I went to Halifax and job done and was cheaper than my usual broker with or without a CAT 5 tracker.

Interesting. My 2015 model has a Cat 6 fitted as standard & my ins. company are quite happy with that. Renewal is due at the end of the month & I have a Sport AB on order for delivery in March so I contacted my ins co to see if that would be a problem. They replied it would need a cat 5 tracker. As I wasn't prepared to pay for a cat 5 I told them I wouldn't be renewing with them, & guess what? They told me that a cat 6 would be ok in the circumstances. So if I was you I'd consider cancelling with your current company & shop around.

I had same issue & fitted a cat5 it was about £1000 with 3 years subscription & you also get a fob so if they get your keys & drive off it alerts tracker straight away,,with the cat 6 by the time you realise its gone they have it stripped or in a container,,with the cat5 it can be tracked in container or underground carpark.Plus if you've paid 60-80k for a car whats another 1k.
I left home the other week without the fob,,within 5 minutes tracker were calling to see if it was me or not in car.

They want £900 for a Tracker all in with first years subscription included and £150 extra for my insurance which has 6 months left to run.
Been on line and can insure the car for £450 for the year with protected no claims and they don't require a Tracker fitted as I rang to check.
Looks like I will be cancelling my current policy and taking out a new one in the morning !

Mine is a RRS1 on a 13 plate. I was told by one insurance company that their are loads of companies that don't ask for a cat5 Tracker fitted as the value of the car is under £40k but most if not all require one fitted on cars of that value and above so on a brand new RRS2 you might find you still need to have one fitted.

My vehicle is valued at over £40,000 and insured with Direct Line. They do not require a tracker fitted at all! Cheap premium too, although this is as much to do with where I live as to anything else. Maybe the same reason they have not required a tracker to be fitted as well. It pays to live in God's garden!!

Strange, I'm with Direct Line and needed tracker fitted to insure car. I'm sure the MK2s have one fitted? But would still require a tracking contract. Direct Line Insurance though are quite happy with a Cat 5 Tracker. These are far cheaper to purchase, and reduced my premium by 25%. These are very efficient also, Don't buy LR model from them (JLR), its £200 cheaper through independents, same model.
Example, had to take battery out of car and after just getting the live lead off, I received a Mobile call to let me know and was everything in order before they alerted the Police, within 25 seconds I thought very good, same thing if car put on low loader, or tow, as moving without engine running. John

I had one fitted to my RRS I bought in 2006 brand new. Navtrak from memory which was a real pain as when my other half went out for a night with friends at 2-3am when she would get in the car to come home she would put her handbag in the passenger footwell and Navtrak would ring me and wake me up to say the car was moving and was I with the vehicle as they couldn't see the transponder. 30 seconds in to the call they would tell me it had come online and not a problem.

Good from the point it worked but a nightmare being woken up.
