Hi all,

For closure and maybe of some help to others it thought id update you with progress re: 'Screeching/ metallic scraping' when turning.

It was indeed, due to worn WHEEL BEARINGS and after two front hub changes. I picked the car up this AM and its much smoother and no noise!! It had a good service and also ARB Bushes replaced at the same time.

One bit of advice if poss? It does have worn Lower Control Arm bushes (both sides). Would anyone get this done by a non-land rover specialist? Ie, can any garage do this (so to speak) or does it require specific knowledge?

Also, will the car need 4 wheel alignment if front lower control arms are changed?

Any thing else need to be done too?

Any advice would be great.. but mostly, thanks for the support and great advice!

I would get the Hunter wheel alignment done anyway, I have mine checked every year 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater )))

After an hr or two of absolute blissful no screeching,I finally concluded I could wind my windows up satisfied the problem was fixed.... until I waved goodbye to family a couple of hrs ago and with the window down, the dreaded screeching/ scraping when turning left.

Anybody have any ideas? I've just spent £500 on having two new wheel bearings... I'm lost again and very frustrated!

Can anyone advise what the issue could be??

My bet would be they haven't adjusted the EPB shoes correctly.
(They should be backed off 10 clicks I think).

I had it on my old sport where it would squeal when reversing 80% and intermittently when turning after my local stealer replaced disks and pads. I took it to s specialist who said it was only backed off a couple of clicks..!
Never went to that dealer again.

I can't stop thinking the epb has been overdone.

But what's bugging me more than anything is that this AM when I left the garage parting with quite a bit of cash, was how worth it it was not to have to hear the screeching noise...it went away for a few hrs and after driving the car for a couple of hrs, it was back!

I just don't see how it went away completely for a few hrs then Is back! Surely wheel bearing/ hub hasn't gone after 3 hrs use?!

Just not sure which direction to go in now other than back to garage for diagnostics

If it was damp or raining then they won't squeal as often.
There is not much left it can be...

It sounds to me that you need to take it to someone who actually knows what they are doing around these cars, they need setting up correctly after items are replaced or everything will be fighting against itself, you are paying top prices but getting monkeys , I'd find a decent respected specialist in your area, one who comes recommended.

AND if the garage were changing the two front hubs and bearings to stop the squeal, and it hasnt stopped it, go straight back to them and demand they sort it FOC

I think there's a lesson here for all of us not to use friends to sort RRS issues as it becomes problematic if they don't sort it. As has been said what you (and all of us) need is a good knowledgeable indie close by - not easy to find. Or DIY. Robin

To save more money being spent, I would go back to the garage and ask them to verify the EPB adjustment.
I think it should be adjusted back between 8-10 clicks (from lockup). It shouldn't take them long and shouldn't cost you £££ as you still have problems which should not be there by the amount of things they replaced.

There was a great 'break bible' by bodsy I will try and find it for you so the mechanic can have a read.

I took the car back to the garage and they seem to have rectified the 'squealing when turning' issue...

Sigh.. here it comes...

But now I have brake squeek at low speeds... below say 25mph I'm now getting a pulse of squeek squeek squeek where obviously brakes are rubbing! I give up honestly! so I need to get that looked at.. and to top it off, the Aluminium Side Step stream has come off (somewhere?!) so I need to get that fixed.

I have genuine side steps fitted and have found some local OEM steps with strip. Don't suppose you know if the OEM/ aftermarket steps will bolt onto the same fixings as the genuine steps?

Determined to get this truck looking and working perfectly!

Sorry mate, I've been away for the week.
Firstly, is the squeaking at low speed still coming from the back...?
It sounds like something is not running true, I would get them to check the 'runout' of the new discs, they maybe slightly warped. Something wrong somewhere, something is just not correct.

I (and I think everyone who has had side steps) eventually has the trim fall off, the rivets holding the alloy trip rot. If you had it you could just use self tapping screws to fix it back in but if you lost it then my advice would be to just replace the whole steps.
On my older range, the steps rotted to the point the plastic top trim sunk through when stepped on.

I purchase some from eBay for around £100, and they fitted on the old brackets perfectly.
Before I fitted them (easy job) I wax oiled the bottoms of the steps really well.

check the rubber brake line at the back. it could be clogged, weared out.
If so, brake fluid wont flow back and your brake gets stuck.

I'd get Bodsy to give it the once over when he's next close by if I were you. He wrote that brake bible!
Or as has been said before take it to a specialist like Alltrack in Malvern or T&S Norman in Somerset etc Visitor from fullfatrr.com
