3.0 TDV6 engine rebuild/replacement cost

Hello there,

I'm in the motor trade and have stumbled across a 2010 3.0 TDV6 from one of our auction sources at a Land Rover main dealers im considering putting a bid on, this car would be an upgrade for my current rrs!

It's done 53k and was recovered in with a noisy engine/loss of power, its listed that the mechanics have drained the oil and discovered swarf in the oil and the customer has bought a new one.

Could anyone give me an idea of potential cost of a rebuild (if possible) or replacement from anyone's experience?

I'd have rang around a couple specialists but the car ends this afternoon and I dont think I'll get anyone on a Sunday!!

Thanks in advance

Nick

Do your research VERY carefully when it comes to recon engines. Company profile, history etc. Way to many of them caught up with huge debts/poor feedback. They then close the door and start up under a slightly different name.

The one in Paisley certainly makes for interesting reading...

Otherwise, you are looking around £3k+ for a bare recon engine plus fitting

Alternatively, another option is a 2nd hand unit from a running breaker. Prices vary from £4K upwards, again + fitting

Thanks for the quick reply mikey, in your experience do these engines go wrong often? (if I was to fit a second hand one) or am I a lot safer with a recon unit?
I'm in south Scotland id much rather use somewhere like yourself if I do get this one! I'm just trying to work out how much it will cost so I can factor a fair bid on the car!
What sort of labour cost roughly could be involved with a swap?

Thanks again, brilliant forum

Many 2.7 failures can be attributed to external factors (wrongly fitted oil filter, poor remaps, oil pump issues etc)

The 3.0 seems to have a habit of lunching itself for no apparent reason, but this may be down to driving style, or DPF regen/oil quality issues...

As said, research ANY engine recon companies very carefully Thumbs Up

If its any consolation, I have another 3.0 RRS here with a blown engine waiting on replacement, though it has covered 160k miles Thumbs Up
