You can write to the DVLA requesting details of ownership, same as private parking companies would to obtain someones details to ticket them. As long as you have a valid reason they should send it. I can't see your reason is not valid, so maybe the numpty you got on end of phone wasn't too helpful, if you rang. I would look up and send them a letter, it's bound to get you further.

thanks for the reply's. DVLA are adamant that the plate now belongs to someone else so won't even help. I'll try a letter |

Lee, that form supplies information about a vehicle but not the number plate. Can you remember the original plate of your car before you put your personal Reg on?? The number plate is probably on retention because there is no record of it being assigned to a vehicle at the moment. Might be best going down the route of finding out who now owns your old car because no doubt they have put the original plate back on and your personalised plate on retention. ( that is if whoever had your car off you first is not telling porkies and they might have it on retention). Let us know how you get on |
