Andy is correct, But, as already said, in the event of an accident any inspection of car by assessors and the wrong rating tyre (one not being as originally fitted or listed by manufacturer) this would count as a modification, and if not declared, (costing you possibly more), you will get no payout from the insurance company. This is something I have come across a few times, and the fact that none of our cars can do 186mph, doesn't matter to the insurers I'm afraid. Not worth saving the £40 a tyre or whatever, if, and I hope you never do, have a serious accident.
I did check with LR customer/services and the recommended Legal Solicitors as part of my car insurance policy, (generally covered for queries on your policy) and they say Winter only tyres, are a different matter, as you don't get them manufactured for the OEM recommendations, but go for the highest rating available in your size.
All year round, and on/off road tyres 10/90, 20/80, 50/50 etc, I haven't as yet received a reply, but did notify insurance company (gone from 40 profile 275x40x20 to 45) and they accepted this as a permitted modification, (for extra comfort) with no extra charge, but the tyre size alteration is stated on my policy.
