59plate sport dash lights

Hi,
Im looking at buying a 59plate sport, when i test drove it i noticed when the ignition was
put on the yellow engine light stayed on but went off when the car was started.
Is this a fault or not? What lights stay on when everyone else put their ignitions on?

Thanks for any help[/s]
