Park assist-almost reversed into the car at the back.

Hi,
I have parallel parking and was using it for the first time. It reversed into the space and if I had not applied brakes it would have reversed into the car at the back. There was only a mm or so gap Shocked Shocked In addition, it kerbed front passenger side alloy. I was wondering whether I did not use it properly or whether one has to brake themselves rather than expect the car to stop? Question

I remember all those years back when I was learning to drive my instructor teaching me how to park. Strangely enough I haven't forgotten.
I can see when it goes dark, so I switch the lights on and when I see rain drops on the windscreen I activiate the wipers.

IMHO useless technology to try to make new cars look more luxurious and bump up the prices. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.
