Checking for Cambelt/Timing belt change

Hi guys and gals

Just wondering if there is a way of checking if the cambelt/timing belt has been changed if there is no documentation provided, looking to possibly purchase a 100,000 miler L494 and the seller has no documentation to say it has been done

Wondering if a specialist may be able to check for evidence without actually doing the job or wether it's just wise to get it done anyway, i think i know what most of you will say Very Happy

Only way would be to examine the belt to see if you can see if its the original belt, JLR stamped etc and by its condition.

If it had a service history you can check if it was uploaded onto JLR service website and you can check the history.

If not I would personally get it done for piece of mind , you can just get the timing belt swapped. You don't need to do the other belt as that just runs the fuel pump - if it snaps you'd just run out of fuel.

If the timing belt goes then you prob know what the outcome would be.

If there is no documentation then assume it hasn't been done and budget accordingly.

How old is the car? Belt is years or miles, whichever is sooner so it might need it even if hasn't got the mileage. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It's definitely overdue on time in that case. As so many people just service by mileage even though the book says time/miles, I'd assume it hasn't been done yet and act accordingly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
