Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

There was a Recall very long ago (late 2005).. Recall Action Number:A023

Quote:
It is possible that on a limited number of Discovery 3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport automatic vehicles, the parking pawl guide plate within the transmission may not have been manufactured correctly.

Consequently Park may not engage when the gear selector lever is moved to the 'P' (Park) position although all indicators will show that the Park position is achieved. If the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may roll away.

Very unlikely your vehicle is affected by the above but... Rolling Eyes Malaysia Boleh!

RE: Automatic Transmission Incorrectly Manufactured

Dear Colleagues,
It is possible that on a limited number of Discovery 3/LR3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport automatic
vehicles within the above VIN ranges, the parking pawl guide plate within the transmission may not have been
manufactured correctly. Consequently Park may not engage when the gear selector lever is moved to the 'P'
(Park) position although all indicators will show that the Park position is achieved. If the parking brake is not
applied, the vehicle may roll away.

Not all vehicles in the VIN range are affected by this action. A listing of the specific affected vehicles can be
found attached to Quarantine Notice Q4605. Alternatively, you can request a listing of the vehicles affected by
contacting the Land Rover Field Actions team at jlrcamp@landrover.com. DDW will be updated to reflect only
those vehicles affected by this Recall Action.

Action to be taken

Land Rover has taken the decision to Recall all affected vehicles for the parking pawl guide plate to be
renewed. The workshop procedure is attached as Appendix 1.

Unsold vehicles have been quarantined for the parking pawl guide plate to be renewed prior to handover of the
vehicle for onward distribution and sale. Quarantine Notice Q4605 issued 17th October 2005 refers. Any vehicle
that has been resolved as a result of the Quarantine Notice will be removed from this Recall Action. DDW will
reflect only those vehicles that are outstanding.

Land Rover will be writing to all owners of affected vehicles in the UK requesting them to contact their nearest
dealer, as soon as possible, to arrange for the parking pawl guide plate to be renewed. You are requested to
make similar arrangements to contact the customer of affected vehicles in your market, following procedures
that are appropriate to your particular market and as required by local legislation. You are requested to base
your customer letter closely on the sample UK customer letter but adapted to the requirements of your market.
A copy of the UK customer letter is attached as Appendix 2.

At the time of confirming a booking for vehicle repair, please ensure that all outstanding Field Service
Actions are identified to ensure the correct parts are available and adequate workshop time is allocated
for repairs to be completed at one visit.

Thanks.
- VIN on my vehicle is higher, 971 range.

Dealer speaking to LR Technical Support, same fault, although higher VIN Number, very concerning.

Cheers.

Icetrader,

sorry to hear of your problem, but keep us updated.

I have been using park only without park brake recently, since getting a lot of park brake faults and very loud screecing noise.

I thought the EPB engaged itself after a period anyway even if you do just leave it in P - i.e. if you park it up for the night? Confused

Could be wrong, just had a vague recollection that it engaged itself if you didn't do it and then turned the engine off.... Confused

I have never used the hand brake in any auto and rarely use it in a manual (just leave it in 1st)

EPB does not apply automatically on the Auto Box, does on the Manual Discovery, strange why they didn't intro this on the RRS.

LR dealer is unable to get the RRS to fault, so LR Technical saying nothing more can be done and owners should park vehicle according to the Hand Book (applying the EPB Always when leaving the vehicle in stationary position).

I think the V early RRS did engage EPB automatically after a time - IIRC TIS posted on this but later models did not do this.....

i've had a similar problem, mine rolled backwards and knocked my wife down and she is quite badly injured. Like Icetrader, mine is a later chassis number than the stated recall vehicles (mine is 961 range). Land Rover say it wasn't subject to the recall but it's clearly not right, there is obviously a wider problem here.

Similar problem. Vehicle moves while in Park. Fault is intermittent and sometimes accompanied by a clicking noise.
