Emergency fuel filler flap release. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It's not an emergancy pull, it is the locking cable for the fuel filler cap. Next time you lock your car see if you can open the cap. Bet it will open as normal.

1. Lock and unlock car and see if the black end moves correctly. Otherwise no point trying to home it

2. It's meant to be pushed into a black plastic surround, but chances are it won't be an easy job as a spacer will have fallen down in the wheel arch area and lost

When you lock the car the black plastic rod should move out and in when you unlock it. Mine was broken and had to drill and tap it and fit a short length of 3mm all thread. Works fine now.

Hence when someone wanted to fuel the car they ripped that bit out so the flap would open

My guess is at some point it's had a sticking actuator so when unlocking it didn't release the fuel flap, or they didn't double unlock so again it didn't unlock it, so they yanked it out to get access to fill up with fuel and left it. Mine stuck I yanked on it and it broke the end off it.
