Auto wipers wiping once when the car is started... normal?

If I have the rain sensing wipers turned on then every time I start the engine the wipers start, perform one wipe and then stop.

Is this normal?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,

Yes, mine do the same. If this annoys you, I believe the solution is to turn them off before you switch the car off when shutting down.

Thanks for the reply... I'll get them switched off, especially before the frosts start, I forget and rip the wiper rubbers off!

My back one does it as well when reversing out of the drive. Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

Spiffing wheel centre caps available

That's a good point, the frost. The only other car I had with auto wipers was a Jag XF and I can't say I noticed it being a problem though, but then again I possibly never drove it in frost with having a P38 RR.

If you have the front wipers on at all, the rear comes on when reverse is selected.

That makes sense. Like lights, I leave the auto sensing feature on.

For Adam then, if he has left them on auto, I expect the dew picked up overnight makes them make a sweep on startup? Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.

I've never notice my Jag do this.

or other cars with Rain sense.

Yes very silly for frost, in a season where you would just like to leave the wipers on auto.

Winter Park parks the windscreen wipers above the level of the bonnet so you can pull them away from the windscreen for deicing/cleaning. Activated via the menu for vehicle options from indicator stalk on steering wheel.

Essential if cleaning the windscreen as otherwise impossible to clean below the wipers. The normal position parks them below the bonnet line, presumably for aerodynamics.

I take it this "Winter Park" Feature applies to the RRS2 as not seen anything like it on the RRS1, but then to fair haven't really been looking.

Cheers

on mine (MY16) if I set the wiper sensitivity to max, then the wiper wipes once when the car starts, but turning the sensitivity off by two clicks stopped this.

Interestingly I parked my car on the lawn overnight and the screen was covered in Dew. When I started the car the screen was wiped and this does not normally happen. Thought this was very cool. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
