Faulty fuel indicator - mod available?

Hi all,

I posted a little while back saying that I thought my fuel indicator was faulty...well running out of diesel on the M3 yesterday pretty much confirmed it!

Indicator said that tank was just below half full with 180 odd miles left to go...finding this out whilst on the outside lane was a bit hairy - but managed to get in ok to hard shoulder.

Was 2 hours on the back of an AA truck before I suggested that it may be a fuel issue - neither of the mechanics thought it was but they got me to a petrol station, and hey presto.

So -does anyone have experience with this? Is the indicator separate to the fuel pump system, or is it all part of one unit? And am I right in thinking that there is a mod on more recent models (2014-) with some kind of loom system that goes into the tank (??)

Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers
