I'm in the market for a 2 Chanel camera system for my RRS2,,I've been looking at the Blackvue but heard bad reports then I've looked at a Thinkware 750.Has anyone wired these up so it would be hard wired,RAC are selling them & they will come to my home or workplace & fit.this is the price fitted but I don't want them turning up & not knowing what they are doing.

Hi Andy,

I have a BlackVue DR650GW-2CH that I hard wired into my old X5. It's now back in its box waiting to be fitted to the RRS!
The BV is ok, but has been dogged with poor detail as BlackVue cameras always used a low bit rate for the video- it's recently been increased a little however, so should have improved. BlackVue also have the cloud functionality now, so your camera will live stream any 'incidents' to wherever in the world you are. Of course, you'll need to install a mobile hotspot in your car to make use of this feature.
If you're not bothered about the size, then there is the new Thinkware F770 (more compact than the F750)- looks like the benchmark for all future dash cams! Similar price to the BlackVue 2CH as well, so would be my weapon of choice if I was buying new again.

Hardwiring a dash cam is not rocket science, so don't let anyone tell you it is. A little fiddly running the cable from the front camera to the back, but that's the hardest part.

PS The BlackVue is good apart from the above points, quality construction, works well, and talks to you so you know what it's doing and any problems etc. Oh, it's only 720p at the rear, not full HD on both like the Thinkware...

Not sure of Fuse box layout on a RRS2 but recently hardwired a Thinkware F770 in my RRS1. Piece of cake, three wires Ign. live, perm. live and earth just piggy backed in to fuse box. As Slim444 said hardest job is routing the cables to make a nice neat job.

Thanks guys,I've just noticed Thinkware now have the F770 & it's only £50 more so I think I'll order one,any recommendations where best place is to buy,I've only seen them on eBay.

I've got the Thinkware F750 2 channel in my beamer, very happy with all it's features. Well the ones i actually use.

To be fair I think the only real advantage for the F770 over the F750 (having tried both ) is the fact that the 770 is slightly more compact and fit up behind mirror better without being to intrusive.

Col, I keep thinking of upgrading to Thinkware but the size and potential fitting location (if you want to use all the features) put me off. How well does the lane departure warning feature work on your F770 fitted relatively discreetly behind the rear view mirror to the left? Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Hi fkarim,

Haven't really sussed the lane departure bit yet, the reason I fitted it to the Right Hand side of the mirror is due to the location of the Camera Lens being to the left of the Unit viewed from the rear. If it was fitted to the Left of the mirror the lens and with the slight curve of the screen it would be to far off the centre line of the vehicle which it needs to be calibrated to. Shame they don't make a L/H and R/H Drive versions.

Has anyone hardwired the Thinkware & if so what did you wire to before I start checking wires.Is their a constant live in the interior light as that would make it easier to wire up.
