2010 RRS 3.0 TDV6 - Starting issues-cranking but won't fire | |
Hello Guys,
Im new to the forum, and am really hoping that one of you can help to point me in the right direction.
I have a 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 that seems to be full of gremlins! I'll start at the top...
I've had the car around a year and for a few months all went without fault until one day the starter motor began to play up - it would just 'CLUNK" when i tried to start the vehicle. Along side this issue, the truck also seemed to throw up all manner of electronic warnings - mainly 'Vehicle lean when cornering', but there were multiple others too. I assumed that this was a starter motor fault and that the electronic warnings were coming about as a side effect of the battery taking a beating when the starter was continuously failing.
To that end, i replaced the starter motor and this seemed to remedy all of the issues (starting and warning messages)...until this week, although now, the issues are somewhat different....
So now; the main problem I'm having is that the truck will turn on and crank (i.e the engine turns over at correct speed) but it will not fire (this can go on for hours sometimes, obviously not continually cranking for hours). Occasionally the starter clunks instead of turning but only probably 1 in 20 times.
I have done the obvious and changed the battery for a brand new one just to eliminate that element, however this hasn't fixed the issue.
Having tested the fuel perge valve at the rear of the engine, i found that fuel wasn't reaching it...weird. First assumption was that there was an air lock (a blocked breather perhaps?). removing the fuel cap, i heard a deep gurgling, which supports the air lock theory, and furthermore, the truck fired into life after this.....whats odd is that now, I'm having the same fault...the continued cranking but not firing, even after removing the fuel cap. its as if the engine just isn't receiving fuel.
i should add that if the truck does start, it can be driven for any amount of time without fault, so a full air lock may not be correct otherwise the truck would suffer from fuel starvation after driving. its just starting it in the first place thats tricky.
I have checked all fuses & relays and all seems to be well... Can anyone please suggest anything that i may be overlooking!!
Thanks for reading my lengthy post!
