Hello. I'm new here after recognising I had to sell my garage queen 1997 911 and replace it and my everyday Suzuki Jimny with a single, decent, modern vehicle. I need to pull a two and a half tonne boat occaisonally (and no the 911 was not used for this not was the Jimny) and therefore have narrowed the choice down to either a) RRS TDV8 or at £15000 cheaper b) a TDV6 SE Discovery. I'm in no hurry so can wait for a TDV8 if that is the right choice for me - but I just cannot decide. I just keep having this niggling feeling LR will go and offer the Disco with a TDV8 in the 2008 model year.

Either way I will need a decent towbar on the back and was wondering if anyone can post a photo of a multi-height towbar fitted to their RRS and which LR seem to offer amongst their accessories.

Here it is on the back of a D3. U know that make more sense, loads of room in the boot for boating stuff!

Both the RRS and D3 are great cars. the TDV8 will be great and if you want a car to drive the RRS is the car for you. If you need to fill the car with stuff then the D3 will probably be for you. The D3 will not be released with the TDV8 for a while yet as they have supply problems with the engine already. 2008 at the earliest for the D3 if ever. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

RRSJO, welcome to the forum. I have the removable tow bar system and that will pull as much as the multiheight one. Do you need to have a multiheight as they are permanent and rather spoil the back view of the car. Remember that the RRS and D3 both have air-suspension so you can lower them to hitch up heavier trailers also fixed tow hooks tend to limit the rear clearance height too if you should ever venture off into the wilds and catch on the ground, they also act as a plough in offroading. You should also specify the LR tow pack when you order the car as you will get a nicely integrated set of electrical sockets and a beefy rear recovery point fixed to the chassis. I don't know how aftermarket fitters like Indespension or Witter get round the complex wiring loom on modern Land Rovers. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If the ordinary plug in will take the strain without any side support then it will probably be the correct height for a four wheel german boat trailor.

I will let this post ride awhile regarding my vehicle option choice of a RRS TDV8 or a Disco (Don't like the idea of LR not nowing when they can deliver though - very 1980's management). Then I might post a poll

7.5 metres long, 2.5 metres wide and 2.5 metres high with the mast down - it's a yacht. 2 tonnes plus the trailer. I've towed in with a defender and had a job to keep it over 40 mph and yes I do pull into every lay-by and let the queue of traffic go by.
