UNBELEIVABLE

Another problem. Apart from the load I've allready got,, airbag light came on this morning so checked under seat wires and checked airbag connectors all seemed ok, thought I'd take a visual at clock spring and to my shock horror I found these wires chopped. Can anyone tell me why someone would feel the need to bodge this rather than just repair what was wrong in the first place, it looks like it's bodged buy someone who now show to hide a fault or owner just didn't want to have it repaired and just masked over the fault. I want to connect them back together but am pretty concerned. HELP Big Cry

Hi Tim, I'm pretty sure that will be a no no mate as it was private sale, every time I remove something it's getting worse and worse. I'm Censored Disgusted I shall be giving seller a call and piece of my mind. .

As Tim says, if purchased through a dealer, you would have grounds to return car under the sale of goods act, but he would have to be given the opportunity to fully repair first I believe, if a used vehicle.
If you can get previous owner details, you might be able to find out why done, or if it wasn't them, but a cheap trade in which has then been bodged.
Best of luck getting sorted, I personally wouldn't repair in case joining back up causes other problems which would then be down to you. John

I posted above at same time as the reply. Crying or Very sad
Even a private sale must not sell a unroadworthy vehicle, I would still consult trading standards for advice, you may have to go to small claims court. Owner must have known of faults, and unless stated in advert/listing should have stated them.
Most unlucky, that's one thing with retail sales you do have a comeback and warranty, but have to pay more. Embarassed John

I really don't like going to car traders because you can't even trust them, (no that's not completely true trust SOME NOT ALL) now days they charge you extra and also no what faults are hiding but like you say I surpose it's worth the extra for this exact reason, you can return within given time BY LAW, I've phoned seller and as I expected sorry it was ok when I had it blah blah,
Will just have to book it into garage and see what they can do with all the mess. I will contact trading standards tho just for there opinion.

To top it off just noticed self levelling don't function and also light on dash, Got to Rolling with laughter Or I'll Big Cry Mr. Green

So the "private" seller has knowingly sold the car with faults that could have killed you? How many previous owners has the car had and when was the MOT issued because if it was only recently issued then it was done fraudulently as the airbags system wasn't working................ No consolation to you but I know a member of FullFatRR forums who went through similar problems with a FFRR, he took it to the local LR Indie who showed that every warning light on the dash was illuminated best you couldn't see them as the covers had been painted black.............. He had ABS, Stablity Control,Airbags and Engine Management lights on but couldn't see them for the paint 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Can't really make out cable colours, are they by any chance Red/Yellow, Red, Red/Green and Red/Black? the second colour being the tracer colour.

Cheers

Hi col, from memory I think they are the colours you specified, it's 1 off the plugs that go into the left hand side of the clock spring, yellow plug with 4 wires. All been cut about half inch from connector.

Hi,

If they are the four wires they go to the Restraint Control Module (RCM), if so you may have to re-connect them to find the original fault, alternatively if you have fault codes read it may tell you.

Cheers

Ahh so that maybe the reason for airbag light on, iv probably done 100/150 miles since purchase Friday evening, if previous owner had light reset can it take couple days to find fault again, I took all the bodged tape of & took picture of the 4 wires cut from wiring loom and they are linked 2 by 2 on a fuse loop (if that makes sense)

And yes you were spot on with the colours col.

Hi,

I'm inclined to think whoever did that new exactly what they were doing, as I don't think it is something the average person would know to do. It may be just a faulty Clock Spring they have basically by-passed rather than replaced it as they are quite expensive from L/R. I think you still need some fault codes read though.

Cheers
Col

Question Thanks for all feedback and help really means a lot to have input/feedback/help/advice. Thumbs Up

Unfortunately I think it may be one of those instances where it will have to be reconnected to find the fault, hopefully the car will still have the original fault logged though. You may not have any redress from previous owner but perhaps he could at least tell you the original issue assuming he knew it had been done of course.

Cheers
