No RRS in Egypt

Got back last night from 2 weeks of very pleasant holiday in Sinai. Didn't see a single RRS but plenty of Series landies in Egyptian Army desert paintwork. Also had a S1 Disco V8 parked outside my room for a couple of days and a Def110 TD5 arrived at the hotel over last weekend. Only saw one FFRR while in Cairo.
Saw quite a few Cayennes and X5/3's and 1000's of really old Land Cruisers.
Speaking to some of the expats who appeared at the hotel over the weekend the reason for there being so few LR's in Egypt has nothing to do with the reliablity it is purely cost - a new Shogun costs $36000 after tax but a new Defender costs more than $100000 as LR don't make them in Egypt whereas the Japs send in kits for construction there....................... So anybody owning an RR in Egypt is seriously wealthy (unless they work for a foreign oil company and can get their car duty free). Tax on imported new cars is >110% of the price in the country of origin! There are compensations..... petrol is 7p a litre and the roads in Sinai are brilliant - wide and well surfaced (built by Israel to get troops around quickly!). Cairo is a nightmare. We spent a day there before flying home and on the 4 lane motorway out of cairo to the airport we encountered donkeys and carts and how's this a beggar in a wheelchair, pushing it against the traffic flow trying to get folks to stop and give money........................... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Had a wonderful time. Mainly went windsurfing and when the details of the desert driving came out it transpired that we would be passengers in an ancient Land Cruiser so I opted out. We climbed Mount Sinai to watch the sunrise, which was fantastic. St Katherine's Monestary was a pleasant diversion but the "burning bush" from the bible is just a scrawny old bramble bush in the courtyard of the monestary which was diappointing. We set out from the monestary at 0130 and made the summit at 0430 having climbed to 7200ft. Sunrise was at 0600 and then when the other crowds had cleared off we started the walk back down via the 3700 steps of the Stair of Redemption....................... which was hard work even though we were coming down hill. Will post some photos later 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
