Nice driving with the Sport, but the time has come to see it go.

First things first

Fuses - Try pulling out and re-inserting the fuses one by one. Technically this should NOT help but I did it once for a similar issue and it fixed the problem so you never know... Also, it's FREE

Battery - Check the connections for corrosion, wear etc. Try disconnecting the battery for 5 mins to reset the ECU. While disconnected lube it up with electrically conductive grease

Ground leads - Check the ground leads to the battery. Disconnect them and do the same as for battery WHILE the battery is disconnected. DO NOT TRY THIS WHEN THE BATTERY IS CONNECTED!!!!!

Basically the idea behind this is to eliminate the simple easy stuff that you can do at home so when you go to the dealership you can say you did all that and give them less work to do, hence a lower repair bill for you.

Very Happy

Battery
Alternator
Brake light bulbs
Brake switch
Earth connections

The usual litany of things to check. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi, this is all down to battery state of charge/alternator, had same with my '06 s/c, if your battery is on its last legs (not always diagnosed by voltage reading or high discharge test) it will overload and cook the alternator trying to both charge and keep all the electrical systems running. on the safe side I replaced both battery and alternator resulting in all problems solved.
cheers,
Tony.

Hi guys sorry for the late reply I've had a terrible few days! So the update on the sport is I dropped it in on Friday after the same fault presenting itself in the same sequence - locks - suspension - turn off sat navigation- disable indicators and leaves hazzards on. When I turn off the car it won't turn on again for 3 mins or so. But then drives as normal.

I'd read your advice and I'll pass that onto the 4x4 specialists I have it with in Belfast. The owner of the garage worked on it himself for me over the weekend and said that he reckons the can bus is the fault. Basically it's thrown up codes all over and he has recommended to swap out my instrument panel.

I think the good news is that the suspension etc all work it's just the computer is messing up. One thing I remember doing is plugging my smart watch into a cigarette charger it's a fast charge device and it may be concidiencial or the electrical gremlin.

Really hoping it gets fixed easily!

Ground leads play a super huge factor in electrical problems. I learned this lesson a few months back when I had a delayed start issue. The dealership replaced the fuel pump, filter and a few other things and still nothing. In the end it was a decayed ground strap so before you spend THOUSANDS, get the tech to check ALL the ground leads and make sure they are intact and in good condition. Spend small before you spend huge.

Thanks all, I've a little spark of hope that I may get this resolved with a little checking.

Sadly after a lot of tests from my indies, they asked me to try the main Land Rover garage here in Belfast to see if they can get any thing other than what they suspect is the main issue - the instrument panel.

They done me a massive favour trying out sensors, running tests and testing the ECU.

They even went ahead and emailed me the fault codes - Take a look at these for codes!

Thanks. There is always a silver lining! I've now it going to the main land rover dealers here in Belfast. So hopefully they can spot what needs sorted on it. The indies are thinking it's the instrument panel needs replaced but think I'm best getting a second opinion. I appreciated them doing that and not just fitting it in hope. So fingers crossed. Shame as I really miss driving it.

Here are the pics it gives on dash...

Okay little update. Might be a glimmer of hope. I tried my spare key last night and drove for around 25 minutes (15 more than usual) and it went without any fault right to the door. I'm going to try it again today but would a key make a difference?

SORTED THE PROBLEM!!

It took a long while, but to help others, it was the instrument panel. Coupled with the ARB bars leaking, so a few pounds lighter and the car working once again. The instrument panel is 700 quid, so its not a cheap one to replace, I think the v8 version I have costs more than the v6?

Hope this helps anyone else with these issues.

So glad you got this sorted, the Independant dealer weren't far wrong in the end. It's a shame you can't fit secondhand/used displays, but that's the disadvantage of all the electrics, everything has to match, and all the mileage etc wouldn't match I believe, from a LR mechanic. John
