The beep means one of the doors, boot or bonnet are open. When you lock it and it beeps walk round the car to see which one isn't locked.

I have worked out the problem, it's with the drivers door, the chrome latch by the handle (pic below) is stuck, when I press the lock button it doesn't move (stays open) and it's really stiff to push

sounds like the actuator wire or actuator itself has failed and not in the usual way

If it's the just the cable it's a cheap part to replace around £15, however to get it to fit to both ends the other end is connected to your door latch which is not a easy job to remove.

Am I correct that by pressing a door lock button it should respond with a bleep or chime?

Mine does not chime when locked also, but do get a double beep if a door etc is not closed properly. I am sure I read an article on here the other day saying that a chime can be programmed when the car is locked,, maybe Bodsey is your man to ask. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Whilst in for a service yesterday, I mentioned the problem I was having with the drivers door lock, they think it's a wiring fault, they want to charge me £60 to find out exactly what it is, and if it is what they think (wiring fault) it WON'T be covered under my approved used warranty! Where as if it turns out to be a component all costs will be covered!

I reckon it's the actuator as it sounds similar to a problem I had. Typical LR dealership response - I think they try to scare people off so that they can just do the high-profit servicing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
