Terrible squeaking that sounds like a banshee

My MY2014 HSE has developed terrible squeaking when under 30mph. Seems to be most common when reacting to a bump, especially with any steering input. Over 30mph it disappears completely.

At first perished anti-roll bar bushes were diagnosed but changing these made no difference. I'm now awaiting return visit to the dealer and the squeaking is louder and more shrill than ever. To me sounds like it's coming from further back. At first I was sure it was to do with the suspension but recently I've been thinking about the gearbox/transfer box mounts, but have no idea if they're rubber or solid.

Grateful for any ideas.

Stone trapped against a brake disc?

Is it continuous, or on/off with suspension movement? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

No, definitely not a stone.

Loud screech most noticeable when suspension returns and settles after movement, especially when combined with steering input, but only up to 30mph. It sounds closest to a horror film creaking door – so loud that pedestrians jump from the noise as I go over speed bumps. Both I and dealer assumed it was perished rubber (so the anti-roll bar mounts) but changing these made no difference. At first sounded like coming from the front, no particular side, but lately it feels further back so wondering about drivetrain/gearbox/transfer box mounts but this seems very unlikely.

Can't think what else could make such a noise so any other ideas very welcome.

Possible air suspension issue? I think you're car is off road quite a bit, and the issue disappears over 30mph, so maybe the compressor is having a problem....or leaking air suspension?

Mine had a squeak and tapping a low speed, after my second visit to the dealers it turned out to be bent/damaged brake cooling duct.

It does sound like a dry suspension bush somewhere. Does it go away or get better in the rain? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

They haven't been changed – the noise is on the move from the front end/underneath – but interested to know why might this make a difference as I use the park brake a lot (I've found that holding the car at a roundabout in 1st on the brake ensures the quickest pick-up).

I think it must be something to do with suspension mounts, though. Haven't noticed a difference in the rain but will check if we get wet weather.

Well, it is still under warranty, so if I were you I would give it back to the supplying dealer, demand a replacement vehicle, and not accept it back until they had fixed it.

Maybe call LR assist? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

It's in for three days from Wednesday to diagnose and fix so if they can't sort it I guess that's what I'll do. It has done 45k in just over 2 years so I think I've got to give them another chance before I get too punchy. Just hope they can work out where the noise is coming from.

Ended up being a severely worn ball joint at the front. All good once the fault eventually found – I've got an almost completely new front suspension because they've replaced so much... (Through all the time the car was going back and forth the repair centre was a pleasure to deal with, even as they failed to work out what the problem was – maybe because they're not a dealer?).
