United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Fuji White
pcv valve & pipe layout

I have noticed a little oil on the top of my engine cover (2005 4.2 SC) and have been trying to work out where its coming from. There is only ever a very small amount of oil and it only appears occasionally, like every few weeks. I read something about crankcase pressure, so I took the oil filler cap off and felt for vacuum, there isn’t one. I put a piece of paper over the filler hole and rev’d the engine a little. The paper got blown off and a fine spray of oil came out the hole.

Further investigation of the PCV valve suggests I have found the problem. As you can see in the photo, it looks like the PCV valve has been blocked up. I assume there should be a pipe on the end of the pcv valve going somewhere, but I can’t find any diagrams or part numbers to work out what I am missing. When I originally bought the car a year ago, it had a manifold leak, and the garage had the car back to fix it, I’m guessing they may have temporarily blocked off the pcv valve to find the leak and forgot to reconnect ?

If anyone can advise if I am missing something or the pipe part number or a photo I’d really appreciate it.

Ian.

Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thank you both, you've saved me hours of searching. I've found the location at the back of the engine thanks to that diagram. It seems I have the first few inches dangling down the back of the engine. Doesn't say much about the dealer I bought the car from, or for that matter the local independent that just serviced the car, including changing the plugs but didn't notice it. Never mind...

So I'll be ordering a new PCV valve and that rather expensive pipe to go with it. Maybe the car will run better then, though can't say I've noticed any issues, other that the oil.

Thanks again !

Ian.
