I called the DVLA to tax my MY06, and of course the tax in total was £500

The chap on the phone said, unfortunately your car was registered 1 day late, which is why i am in the higher band of tax and not the £250-£290 or whatever it is.

Anyway, i have a friend who is building a 1970 beetle, and has come across this issue before due to registrations of the car etc, and he is adamant that the tax bracket your vehicle comes in, is from the date of manufacture, rather than registration, and says he has argued the case before with DVLA and won.

Does anybody know if this is true? if it is i could be saving alot of money with the tax, or is it a myth?

I'm quite sure you will find it's from date of First Registration.

I could be the one that's wrong, but I think it is your friend that is wrong.

Day of registration. Mine was registered on 23/03/2006. If it had been registered on 25/03/2006 it would have been in the higher bracket; so missed it by two days

Mine was registered 24th march 2006 and i have been stung with £500 a year

Worth looking into that one mate. Mine is deffo on the lower rate.
