Independent garage in London

Hi guys,

Does any body have a recommendation for a honest independent garage around London?

I am lately ringing around for a possible torque converter issue and all i am getting is very different quotes with few of those garages stating that " most likely even the transmission has to be changed". How comes that? without seeing the car? I am honestly not ready to be ripped from one of those garages awaiting their BINGO, not with me.

My apologies if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move this topic.

Joe. Current: RRS 06 with 115.000miles
Garage: 1967 Shelby GT 500 fully restored with 13.000miles
Garage: 1973 Buick Riviera boat-tail 455 engine with 55.000 original miles

Owned previously for everyday use: BMW X3 3.0d

Wife: 2006 Mini Cooper S (trying to explain her she would look much better on a 80' Defender)

Previous 2012 FL2 liked but boot too small
Previous to LR's 3 x Merc E320 estates - fantastic load carriers and long distance cruisers, ultra reliable. Only changed as needed a 4x4 high tow vehicle. Did have a 1955 early LR drop down windscreen and fuel tank under the drivers seat; again very reliable and super rugged.

I switched from main dealer to Brunswick Garage in N11. They seem quite good and on the two occasions I have used them they have not tried to rip me off, which is nice. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

I live in Enfield and I take my RRS SC to Aylmer they live and breath RR and that's the kind of place you need.

Brunswick are jack of all they are not really specialists.

Web site is http://www.aylmer.co.uk/

if you do go and you ask for a courtesy car you will enjoy driving their R Reg RR Discovery with its Cassette player, soapy breaks and some water swooshing side to side when cornering Rolling with laughter

ilard, what did you use Brunswick for? The rear pads on my car are down to the metal and Rovertune can only do the work on the 5th April. Given that my RR is my daily, I don't fancy waiting. Worst case I will drive it everywhere gently seeing as Im replacing the discs anyway but the noise is horrid!

Agree with DrRob, brakes can be done anywhere.

As for Brunswick, they did my 5 year service. They did a great job BUT did not do my diff oil or transfer box oil or whatever it is. So annoying. Will do it at 6 year service instead. I would still recommend them but don't compare with a loving Land Rover specialist. And much more cost effective than a main dealer. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I had a service done at MRH in Hertford a month or so ago. I was happy with the service and I'm heading back there this week to have some further work done as my handbrake motor has given up the ghost.

Prices were good and the staff friendly. I tried there from a previous mention on here some time ago.

Cheers..

Ian

Aylmer in Bell Bar get a huge thumbs up from me. Over the weekend, my pads wore down to the metal and my battery was completely unreliable. I did have it booked in at Rovertune but my RRS is my daily driver and I couldn't drive it that way until the 5th April.
Called up Martin at Aylmer on Saturday and he said he said that although he was booked up until the following week, if I dropped the car off on Tuesday he would fit it in between jobs and get it back to me today. Delivered exactly that for a price that I was more than happy with and crucially I wasn't off the road for long. They seem very knowledgable about all things LR and took the time to explain everything to me with excellent communication when there was a slight hitch with my locking nuts. Also my interior was kept clean.

It would be an interesting option for me to use a proper specialist like this. I doubt they do a collection service (30 mins drive but 1.5 hours on the choo choo!) but if they did I'd bite their hand off. And also they'ed need to be happy dealing with Warranty Direct, my equivalent to The Samaritans. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I'm probably the same - 30 min drive but no real direct train. I just ended up getting a lift.
