Heavy steering

I have recently picked up a 2011 RR autobiography and have 22 inch wheels fitted.

From time to time and seemingly more recently, the steering feels heavy - turning to right I tend to notice first but it can switch to other side also.

It isn't always like this and doesn't seem related at all to access height or normal height driving.

There is no rubbing or wheel restriction in arches - just heavy movement from what is usually really light.

Tyres pressures are fine.

Is this a steering motor/hydraulic issue? Any thoUghts?

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Hi Barry,
Pretty sure power steering 'pumps' are electric now, so maybe the electronics switching between normal and dynamic mode. Could be faulty pump or steering control system...
Having 22" wheels won't affect the steering anyway, although it will make for a pretty "crashy' ride Wink

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

I have a 2012 with 22's & a 2012 on 19's & the steering on the 19's is a lot lighter due to tyres not being as wide.

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

When the topic of intermittent heavy steering has come up previously the experts usually attribute it to a partially seized universal joint in the steering column. A diagnostic and temporary fix is to spray liberally with WD40 or similar; but for a permanent fix replace the joint. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Had the same on mine with intermittent stiff steering. Changed the shaft and universal joint.( all as one piece). It greatly improved handling, the uj was knackered and had masses of movement. The part is less than £100 for genuine part.
