Transmission Sump Change

I am wanting to change my 07 TDV6 transmission sump to a metal one.

There are a lot of good threads about changing it and the oil and I thought I had it down pat but I am unsure on one aspect.

I understand that if you cut the filter neck (I assume with a hacksaw) on the plastic sump, the sump and then the neck will come out without having to remove the cross member - is this correct? Is the filter neck easy to get at to cut it?

With the plastic sump out - I take it your just put in the metal sump filter into the bottom of the gearbox and there is enough room for the sump to slide in place to be bolted up. I have had a close look at the plastic sump in place and while clearance between the cross member and sump bolts is close there is enough room for my torx bit on a ratchet to get in there.

Thanks
