Apple keep a non standard tag in the image file for orientation and as long as you stay in the Apple world it will be shown correctly.

If your photos are located in a gallery here or on FFRR.com then you can rotate them within the gallery software - go to the photo in the gallery, open it and on the edit toolbar the first tool will rotate 90 degrees or 180 degrees, save the photo again and then move to the next one.
