BOOT OPENING problem

The boot is not opening as it used too. The ‘hydraulic’ tubes on both sides are stiff and I’m getting fed up with hitting my head!! I have tied WD 40 on the visible bare of the tube and on both ends of the housing – but that hasn’t worked. Any thoughts? Andrew Kennedy

White lithium grease, it sprays on and stays put, unlike WD40

Forgive me for piggybacking on this thread - I have a 2010 Facelift HSE RRS with 'power closing' on the tailgate. I have to manually bring the tailgate down, but then when it's almost closed the clever bits kick in and grab the tailgate to close it perfectly. All very nice, but what's the point? I need to use a reasonable amount of strength to bring the tailgate down and it will then 'slam' shut nicely of it's own accord. If I want to use the 'power close' I then have to prevent the slam (using more of my precious energy) before allowing the power close to take over. Am I missing something, or is it just a pointless design?

^^^
Power closing was brought in for MY12 (second half of 2011) so if your avatar model is correct you don't have power closing on your MY10 Wink

Power close boots have a button on the tailgate bottom which you press when they are open and also a button on the dash to open the boot from inside the car Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Perhaps 'power close' was the wrong term. It doesn't have the system wheer you just have to push a button. Perhaps 'soft close' is a better term for what the tailgate does. As soon as the tailgate is almost closed you hear all sorts of motors whirring into action and then pulling and locking the tailgate closed.

And I really like this feature. You don't need to slam the boot shut, just bring it down and it pulls itself in snugly. We also have a Ford Galaxy and you need to slam that, the RRS is much easier.
