I'm looking for a jack to be used only a couple of times a year to swap winter / summer tyres. It won't be used for any real maintenance work. the jack will be used on a RRS and possibly a Disco 3. I don't want to spend too much as it won't be used regularly, so under £50 would be good.

I use the popular Clarke CTJ3000G (NB not the quick lift one - it's too weak) which I'd recommend.

Thanks. the Clarke is over £100 and the SGS is nearly £70. I was rather hoping to sneak under £50. Am I being over-optimistic? |

TBH, I think £50 would be pushing it. These are some of the heaviest cars around and have been known to bend lesser jacks so I wouldn't take any chances. It's not a huge cost in the scheme of ownership (though I know only too well how it all adds up ). Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I have a Halfords 3 tonne trolley jack. They sometimes come up in their sales which pushes the price down from the usual £100. So far it's been great although I did remove the quick lift pedal as I don't use it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

If you buy a trolley jack, make sure its got a high lift (at least 500mm). My old Halfords jack is OK for cars but not an RRS!

Yep, anyone who values their fingers/limbs/life should not use the supplied jack. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
