Rear diff drain plug

Hi guys
Changing the diff and trans fluids on my 55 06 sport Done the front and trans box fluids but when I come to do the back
Diff the drain plug seems to be smaller than a 3/8 square and too big for next size down thought it might be rust/crap in there but wire brushed it and 3/8 is still too big? Any one else had this problem??
Cheers

Very odd. Perhaps someone could have put a non-standard plug in, but even then, who on earth would make one between a 3/8 and 1/4 square drive? Confused

Have you tried a thump with a hammer?

You take a 3/8 extension and carefully grind it down on each flat until it fits. It needs to fit snuggly and if you have a slight taper (thinner at the end) you can also tap it in to make it tighter. Gently turn with a t-bar or ratchet and hopefully it will loosen.

A firm tap before you start might make it easier.

Got a pic yes but it wont upload for some reason!!
I've grinded down a 3/8 inch extension and it fits fine now
Only thing I can think of with the drain plug is it's pretty corroded and maybe that's
Stopping the 3/8 inch drive from going in has the outer part of the drain plug is flaking away aswell
Anyway a I hope it comes out ok when I try
Would like to fit new ones in the rear diff if anyone can put me in right direction to buy them ??

Thanks
