Leaving car for 6 weeks - any setting to conserve battery?

Hi All,

I've not yet checked this in the user manual, but thought worth a quick question to the knowledgable folks here...

I'm about to go on holiday for 6 weeks and the motor (L494) will be left alone in a car park. I've no means to leave it on trickle charge - is there any power conserve setting I can enable or should I expect to return to a flat battery!?

Lock it in access mode will help.

Can you explain why access mode uses less power when the car is locked?

*wades in with limited knowledge* I believe it's to do with the car not trying to periodically self level.

Certainly for the L320 put it Locked Access Height as it stops the car waking up to check its level.

Not sure if this also applies to later models. 07MY RRS TDV6

There's no need to lock it in access height, just lower it. The theory is not that it stops it self leveling but that it sends all the electrics to sleep so that they don't continuously look for your key fob. I used to leave my 2005 and 2007 MY RRS's for up to 4 months without battery problems when connected to a £10 Maplin solar panel as a trickle charger. It is very important that you buy a solar charger with a blocking diode so that come night time the solar panel doesn't cause the battery to discharge the main battery. Unfortunately, in their wisdom LR since 2011 have made the power sockets and cigarette lighter disable when the ignition is off. They did kindly reinstate the one on my 1st Evoque when the battery wasn't lasting 3 weeks when not on trickle charge but once they had sorted out the problem with rapid discharging batteries they also re-inhibited the cigarette lighter! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks for the advice everyone. The car will be in an underground car park, so the access height idea might be the one for me to try. MY15.5 Fuji White, SDV8 HSE Dyn Stealth Pack

I am not familiar with the L494 but are you able to open a door with a key as you can with the front passenger door on the L320? If so then you should be able to leave the car but might have to call the RACV or LR assist if the battery is flat.

If there is no way to gain access to the vehicle with a flat battery then I would consider connecting heavy duty cables and an anderson plug that is accessible from under the vehicle so you can connect an external battery to provide enough power to open the car up and gain access to the under bonnet area for jump starting the car.

However for 6 weeks, if the battery is fully charged and is in good condition before hand I dont think you will have an issue.

I left mine for 4.5 weeks and it was "critically low" on my return, however I didn't lock it in access height so I think it might be "touch and go" but reckon you'll be ok! 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography

I've left mine in the garage for the next 2 months, just left it unlocked

If the battery does go flat is there jump start points under the bonnet?

how about unplugging the battery?
EDIT: just seen you'll be leaving it in car park so that's a silly idea! access mode I suppose it is then. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

Pleased to report that the car started first time when it was bought to pick us up from the airport this weekend having done nothing special at all other than lock it and leave it.... Friend parked it up for us after taking us to the airport and I didn't want to confuse him with the access mode idea! No dramas luckily. MY15.5 Fuji White, SDV8 HSE Dyn Stealth Pack
