do not understand this

I saw this on ebay and iam confused

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Registration-plate-f...dZViewItem

the plate reads S90 RTR and wil read sport R

so this is an S plate, now i was made to believe that you are not to make your car appear to look newer, by putting a newer plate on it, however he says can go on a 1999 car or newer Shocked Rolling Eyes Confused

this is shurly wrong

It's true in so far as you're not supposed to use a different reg number to misrepresent the age of your car, but I must say I'm not sure how that's policed. What he's trying to say I assume is that you shouldn't be putting this on a car that's older than S reg (which was 1998 I think).... but then it's has an obvious other meaning, so I don't know how anyone would think it was being used to misrepresent a car's age.... DVLA won't let you put a plate on your car that is newer than your car, i.e. you can't put a 56 reg plate on an 06 or earlier car.

You can put older plates on no problem, so with S reg being from 1998 / 1999, if your car is S reg equivalent or newer you can use it no problem, you just can't add it to a car registered on a 98 R or earlier.

Hope that makes sense! Smile

Also.......

The Law does state that you should display the registration as per thier guidlines STRICTLY ...... but as shmoogle says , policing of this is spasmodic Mad

S90 RTR .... should not be re-arranged to read S90RT R

Only companies from Ireland will supply these SHOW plates as they call them...... because they are outside of the UK law.

For additional information on correct & legal requirements for displaying number plate/registrations look here

The correct font and spacing is so that the thousands of ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras can read your plate, which on the good side means the police can track it should it be stolen, but also means that they can track YOU too, for traffic offences, the pence per mile tolling coming in a few years and more if you like conspiracy theories!

I'm afraid the ANPR cameras are all video cameras rather than static pictures, so don't rely on a flash, making any sort of numberplate coating useless.

Still that stuff might get you off from a Gatso speeding fine.

And with all these clever interlinked databases that Phoney and his Cronies have set up, if you have recently applied for a new digitised passport then they can probably match your passport mugshot to the photo from the speed cameras............. so it doesn't matter if you've wasted £25 on a can of gunk 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
