Under settings // My account // it seems in the new version we have a google analytics on/off option with the default to on.
I don't recall that in previous versions and whilst I'm sure it's covered in the service t & c's we all read. Google have a fairly robust on the data they collect being there's.

It's not mentioned in the app tour either.
I turned off the marketing preferences after the last upgrade.
I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before this utility and source of information has pop ups galore, detracting from its use?!
