I recently read a very interesting item in the press where they claim that the owners of vehicles fitted with remote monitoring systems operating through "apps" using in car monitoring systems are legally obliged to give the police all the data recorded within the system............... This includes all the speed data recorded in the vehicle's log maintained on the servers of the monitoring company. Anyone know anything about this and if it only applies in England and not the other parts of the UK with their own government? According to the item you must allow the authorities to download the info "on demand". your phone records your every movement and that data could also determine speed of travel if that was the info in question.

Luckily I think there is so much data it isn't cost effective to use to give speeding tickets but one day I'm sure it will.

I think you will find that even without 'apps' much of this information was already recorded in a vareity of black boxes which existed within the vehicle, and in the event of an incident this information could be requested. - Certainly my old L322 contained a wealth of data including axctual speed / average speed at various points.
