Computer Tech support - anyone?

Any techies on the site who can help me with a problem?

Basically I cant remove the old dial-up connection from one of my works PC's and all of a sudden its started to become a problem - when using the net on some sites the old 'dial-up' window pops up (never dial a connection is set btw) - its been happening for a while, but my wife uses this pc infrequently so never got round to looking at it until now.

When I say cant remove I mean even if I right click and delete the connection it fails to be removed - no action is taken!!!

its running XPPro with all the latest MS patches/updates and we use Norton 2006 Security Suite - not sure if this is the problem though as all the other pc's config is the same (although purchased at different times)

any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Kaine

I once helped a crew member on the ship get rid of an unwanted "premium-rate" dial up that had been planted on his laptop by a kind friend who had borrowed his computer and surfed to a porno site which changed the dial up. Removed it using Spybot of all things, don't know how it did it but it just went after running Spybot on the computer! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

thanks Tim - this is the BTBroadband dialup access that was setup when we installed BB about two years ago in the new offices - I'm thinking it may be associated with some other applications hence I cant delete it

Haven't seen this before myself. When you say you can't remove it, do you mean you can't right-click/delete the dialup connection from the Network Connections window? Does it give you error messages etc?

XP Pro? XP Home? Are you trying this as an administrator-level user?

I take it that it is a legit dialup connection and not one of the premium rate diallers as previously discussed?

XP Pro as admin

as I said above, its the BTBroadband dialup - even the username has the weird BT usernames (hg......@btbroadband etc) so I know its not a dodgy one thats crept in undetected
