Residual values

Obviously very few cars are an 'investment', but I see the LR dealers asking almost list price of a current new car for up to 1 year old RRS. With availability becoming a bit easier in future, things may change. For those who have already part-exchanged an L494/RRS, how have the dealers treated you wrt residual values? Tony

I 'lost' 8K in a year. ( not against another RR though ) I also found that hardly any dealer was interested in buying it and those that were prepared to make a bid took the p..s big time.
Mine was a dynamic with a pretty good spec too. (14 plate )
Two months ago a friend picked up a 14 plate dynamic for 56k at auction.......

It's always worth looking on the dealer trade websites. These are the sites that dealers use to sell to each other, it is possible to put your own car on them an dealers can bid in it.

Not even the supplying dealer? That's quite a surprise.

Losing £8k in the first year is not that much of a surprise (to me), but I certainly understand it is painful. I don't think the depreciation will slow down much for the first 3 years either Crying or Very sad ! Tony

dealer have upto £10000 margin in used RRS's - So your valuation is based on the trade value and not what they would sell it for - so real depreciation is about £6000 if you get your own provate buyer to pay aorund £65000/£66000.

Sold both my 63 SDV6 Autobiography and my 64 plate Supercharged privately for WAY more than dealers were offering me. It is a bit of a hassle but as long as you list it for a reasonable amount less than forecourt prices then many will be interested. In my mind they still had plenty of warranty left and as long as you check out the history/HPI etc then why go to a dealer - apart from a free coffee from a machine!?

I'm perhaps a different customer to some though as I don't want finance. Clearly if you're buying using finance using a dealer is easier. Having said that, some years ago a chap bought a car from me and financed it through Oracle. He had to pay an additional £500 to Oracle as it was a private purchase but it still worked out much cheaper overall than going to a dealer.

If dealers are being silly with their offers, try it on Autotrader or Pistonheads for a week or so. Interestingly whenever I do that I get mostly dealers ringing up with offers anyway - suffice to say the offers are significantly better than if I had approached them with my car to sell! SOLD - 15 plate Estoril SVR

SOLD - 64 plate Aleutian Silver Supercharged

SOLD - 63 plate Corris SDV6 Autobiography

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver

I sold my 63 plate AB with 14k miles for £64240 in p/ex against a new AB. Cost was £77k. Dealer advertised it originally for £68950 then continually dropped it until at £64850 it got sold, maybe at a lower price than the sticker price. Not much margin for the dealer in this case.

Thinking of buying a jan 2015 with a list price of 65000 for 58500 with 4k on the clock. Corris, black roof, privacy glass, big diamond turned wheels and service pack.

Sound about right?

Not main dealer but been put in touch with a seller via a dealer. I've purchased it anyway and paid slightly less. Should get it next week. Seemed cheaper than anything else out there like for like . So I'll give it a go!
