Fix for keyless thefts at Last?

Came across this on a DS forum Very Happy

Quote:
Q491 Replacement of Keyless Vehicle Module:- This states that all DS have a software update which makes the Keyless Module "Read Only" It goes on to say that should new key fobs be required the whole Keyless Module requires replacement.

Any news of this here Question Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Also this Bow down

Quote:
As of 30th March 2015, and the release of Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) DVD 141 Patch 4 (and later releases), all of the above vehicles have a software update applied to the 'Start Authorisation System' at PDI, which makes their Keyless Vehicle Modules (KVM) 'read only'.
After this point, should an owner require added key fobs (due to loss etc.), the KVM will require replacement. As previously, the customer will still be liable for the key fob, cutting of the mechanical key blade, and programming of the KVM, but not the cost of the new KVM itself. This Field Service Action therefore exists to cover the cost of procurement and fitting of a new KVM to ensure that customers are not disadvantaged by this product enhancement.

So LR are going to cover the cost of the in-car module if new keys are required? That's quite generous really. I wonder how long in to the life of the vehicle that generosity applies though - if one buys a 5 year old car, for example, will they still do it? I guess we'll find out in 5 years...

I wonder how much the module costs, how difficult it is to replace and, perhaps most importantly, can this be done by a scrote at the road side? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I've got mine relocated with velcro out of the regular position. Then a dummy OBD port in l the orginal place with a 12v feed to the data pins so if anyone attempts to connect any device without knowing the trick.......it nukes their device.

Justice.

You should put 12v down the data pins and try and damage their kit spiteful Range Rover Sport tdv8

Simply moving the port would be ideal as i doubt anyone would want to hang about searching for it
