Raspy noise when lifting foot of Accelerator

Hello,

Iv not have my 2.7 Hse for long but have noticed a raspy noise when taking my foot of the Accelerator. I thought it maybe normal but if I accelerate and then only half lift my foot of the pedal the noise will just continue.

I have had a look on google and there are mixed reason from loose tentioners to it being normal.

Hopefully someone on here will be able to help me

I took my RRS to the garage today and it turns out one of the EGR valves are stuck half open and the noise is probably from that, hoping to get it fixed of my warranty so will find out if it's cured soon Smile and by fixed I mean deleted

I couldn't tell you, this is the first and only one I have driven and only had it 3 weeks, and it came like that. So I don't know any different.

The garage man spotted it on the test drive before he plugged it in so it must do.

Did you find a fix for this?
Mine does this but has the EGR valves removed & blanked off so I don't think thats the cause of this noise.
Heres a copy of my post

Hi
I have a 2006 RRS TDV6 Overfinch which drives very well except for a rasping/bearing type noise that I get when I take my foot off the accelerator between 1200 - 1500 rpm. The noise is anything from 1 to 3 seconds then stops.
Also when traveling at any constant speed between 1200 - 1500 rpm I get the same noise constantly. This noise will happen in all gears and sounds like its coming from the bell housing area. I took the car to an Auto Transmission Specialist who diagnosed the noise as being the torque converter. He fitted a new torque converter but the noise is still the same. He then fitted a new drive plate, flex plate, but still the same noise. I called ZF technical & they suggested that I change the transmission pump. I did this & the noise is still the same. I then changed the torque converter again to check that the one fitted wasn't a duff one. The noise is still the same. I have now bought another used gearbox complete with transfer box which I was told are in good working order. First I tried changing only the transfer box & then changed the gearbox too but the noise is still there.
I have measured the end float on the crank to be 0.3mm which I'm told this is okay.
I have spoken to Hunters Land Rover about this being a possible ECU software update, but they tell me that software updates only change the shifting but don't stop noises.
If I jack the car up & get all wheels of the ground, put it into gear & get someone to lightly go on & off the accelerator whilst i'm under the car I can see the torque converter moving about 1mm towards the back of the car whilst its making this noise. The torque converter is bolted to the drive plate, flex plate so it cant actually move much at all but whilst the torque converter is towards the gearbox the noise is there. Then the torque converter moves towards the engine & the noise stops.
I have removed the gearbox 5 times now replacing many parts but haven't managed to fix this problem.
Has anyone ever had this noise before or any ideas what it is or how to fix it.
I'm running out of ideas.. Please help!

hi ace i have that rasping sound on my 2.7 hse 2005 its been there since i bought it 18 months ago i took it to stratstone who couldent pin point it and said just keep an eye on it but some one said it might be the actuator arm near the turbo sticking or just dry and to try and get a squirt of oil on it which is not as easy as it sounds havent got that far yet so cant say it works but someone might have cheers Hamner

I believe it is turbo or gearbox related...

It's not the gearbox
I've replaced my gearbox & still have this noise.
Read my post about it. You'll see that it's the torque converter moving towards the gearbox.
I'm not sure how or why the torque converter can move towards the gearbox because its bolted to the drive plate which is bolted to the crank.
I measured the end float on the crank which is well within the tolerances.
Someone hopefully knows how & why this happens & now to fix it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hi ace . i have had my rrs 2.7 hse to the main dealer with this rasp noise they check the turbo which was showing no problems they said it might be the actuator arm which Mikey has ruled out you have ruled out gearbox because you changed that . so were down to torque converter as you say ive never changed mine so im wondering if you or mikey have ever changed yours all the records on my car dont mention this item being changed so im wondering if a new torque converter would solve the rasping sound or someone on forum may of change the converter and still got the noise hope this helps maybe between us all we my get to the bottom of it cheers Hamner

Hammer I know what the problem is but I'm not sure as yet how to fix it.
I've changed gearbox, transfer box, torque converter & drive plate. Non of these fixed it. It is not a problem with the turbo & any driveline. I've done tests to check this.
If you want to see what the problem is you need to get all 4 wheels off the ground either using axle stands or find a garage with a 2 poster ramp.
Then remove the sump guards from the bottom of your car & take the rubber bung out of the bottom of the bell housing.
Start the car & put it into drive. Get someone the lightly go on & off the throttle at 1200-2000 rpm. As the throttle is released you will see the torque converter move towards the rear of the car as the noise is made. The noise stops when the torque converter moves forward to its original position. It only moves max 1mm as its bolted to the drive plate. The drive plate or flex plate as the Americans call it is designed to flex.
I think the drive plate isn't substantial & flex's too much causing this noise.
I'm looking into if a drive plate from the TDV8 can be fitted as this is a much stronger item & so far I've not heard of a TDV8 making this noise.
Did you read the post about this noise where many of the TDV6 engines made this noise brand new out the factory? Ill see if I can put a link to it.
