Buying an imported range rover from ireland?

Does anyone have any experience buying range rovers or any other cars that have been imported from Ireland and are now registered with dvla and have British plates?

I ask because I am in the middle of a deal for a 2.7 tdv6 but when trying to enter registration details for insurance quote none of the websites could recognise the registration and I was wondering whether this was because It was imported or not and if so shouldn't it still have recognised the RR now that it Is on GB plates and on a DVLA log book? Also this might be a stupid question but is there any chance that the car would be more to insure as it has been imported or is it likely to be normal, as the car itself is sourced from the UK?

I can answer this completely, my car was a irish import, it came into this country on irish plates, I insured it through the motor dealers drive away 7 day policy. The dealer MOT it for me the morning I picked it up.
I then bought a uk registration plate from the dvla that same day. The dealer said it would be easier if i had uk plates, so i folowed his advice. I then took both the irish mot and tax, the british mot and a completed tax disc form, car receipt, insurace documents, irish log book, new number plates and everything else I had down to my local dvla office in preston. I was in and out within the hour with everything in english.
However even now the local motor factors can not find my reg number on their system, but online insurance companies can.
I dont believe the insurance costs any more, and when I had a Warrantry direct claim, I photocopied my service book and they never quiered the irsh main dealer stamp 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

The biggest problem now is that all local Dvla offices have been closed so all documentation has to be sent into Dvla Swansea.

Agree totally, closing the local offices was very short sighted of them. I only used it 3 times, but it was alwys full 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))
