For the TDV6 you get the 4 OEM filters, sump bung and 6 litres of Castrol Magnatec for £85 with free delivery.

The brake fluid, aux belt + tensioner, EPB cable guides and PTFE (Teflon) spray plus some other bits and bobs were added.

For me it's so simple:

Remove sump plate and drain oil - 10 mins
Air filter - 5 mins
Pollen filter - 5 mins (inc. emptying the glove-box)
Oil filter - 5 mins (ensuring to locate the spigot correctly)
Fuel filter (EU3) - 10 mins
Fit sump bung and plate, fill with oil - 10 mins.

45 mins or so and that's basically it done. Easy.

Of course, on some services other stuff is needed - e.g. transfer box/diffs/brake fluid. I make my adjustments to the LR schedule in that it's serviced every 10k (~ 6 months) and all the filters are changed with every service. The transfer box is scheduled at 75k intervals but I've decided to do this every 3rd service since it's so easy anyway.  Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I just had the oil and filter changed on mine as it has been a year or so since the last 'proper' service at an indy that cost hundreds.

I picked up right spec oil and big name non gen filter from Quinton Hazell [used to be Regor/Maccess] we use for van/other car stuff, along with some QH rear pads and discs that were pretty cheap. Local garage who does all our general stuff did it without incident. Oil/filter/labour came in at less than £100.

Some people write about basic servicing as if its witchcraft - it isn't. Lets be honest, these cars are going to break down anyway even if you lavish hundreds on them. I absolutely agree specialist knowledge/equipment is needed for much of the work on these, but oil and filter/s changes [which is all most basic services are] isn't rocket science.

On the handbrake: I will mention the local garage used Bodsy's Brake Bible [that I thoughtfully printed off as I knew the handbrake wouldn't be straightforward for a general garage] to set up the handbrake following rear disc/pad change, and they were very pleased to have it they said after. Had it not been for Bodsy's Bible, I would have put it in the indy for the brakes (I guess I owe him a dash mat now for use of his intellectual property ).

But for a basic oil service, any competent local garage can do that.

If you reverse engineer £106.37, take off the VAT and you have £88 and some copper. Take away oil and filter and you get an hours labour. At that money you get oil and filter and not much else. Is that a 'service'? Technically yes, and if the car had a good coat of looking at during the previous service at a proper place, its probably all you need as a stopgap. Get a 2005-2009 RRS (FAH500210) sat nav/dash mat here - the one that wasn't there when you bought the car.
